
Below is a list and detailed description of our awards honoring alumni. Please read each description to decide which award best fits your honor-worthy nominee. Please be aware of the following guidelines:

Recipients MUST attend the awards ceremony to receive an award.

The fact that an individual has previously received an alumni association award in another category does not preclude him/her from receiving this award.

The awards committee will accept nominations from any alumnus, friend or alumni affiliate organization of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The awards committee retains and considers nominations for three years or until selected.

The deadline for submitting nominations is November 1 of each year (except for Cather Circle Awards).

The Awards Committee will review nominations for all of the awards and recommend recipients.
Alumni Achievement Award
Established in 1974 to honor alumni who have a record of outstanding achievements in a career and/or civic involvement. The alumni association presents the award to no more than six graduates at the All-University Celebration and Salute to Alumni Achievement the night before May graduation.
Alumni Family Tree Award
Established in 1995 to honor one family per year that has at least three generations of University of Nebraska–Lincoln graduates and at least two family members with a record of outstanding service to the university, the alumni association, their community and/or their profession. The alumni association presents the award at the All-University Celebration and Salute to Alumni Achievement the night before May graduation.
Distinguished Service Award
Established in 1940 for alumni who have a record of distinguished service to the Nebraska Alumni Association and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. The alumni association presents the award to no more than three individuals at May commencement.
Outstanding International Alumnus Award
Established in 2006 to honor alumni who were non-U.S. citizens during their attendance at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and who have attained national/international prominence through their efforts in education, sciences, technology, agriculture, the arts, business, humanities, government or other world endeavors. The alumni association presents the award to no more than one graduate at the All-University Celebration and Salute to Alumni Achievement the night before May graduation.
Young Alumni Award
Established in 1987 to honor young alumni 40 years of age or younger who have shown exceptional service to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln through volunteer effort and/or have distinguished themselves in their chosen career and/or have demonstrated active involvement in their community. The alumni association presents the award to no more than four graduates at the All-University Celebration and Salute to Alumni Achievement the night before May graduation. Recipients must be 40 years of age or younger as of the date nominations are due.
Cather Circle Alumna of the Year
This award, established in 2005, is bestowed annually to an outstanding alumna who has shown exceptional dedication to Cather Circle. Nominations are accepted from the Cather Circle membership and the winner is selected by the Recognition Subcommittee. The physical award is a certificate and a Michael Forsberg photograph entitled "Cather Country" framed together. The winner is announced at the spring meeting of the Cather Circle, and is formally presented at the Alumni Association’s awards banquet in May.
